INOUE Yuichi was born in Tokyo in 1916. He graduated from the Tokyo Prefectural Aoyama Normal School (now Tokyo Gakugei University) in 1935. In 1952, he co-founded the influential ""Bokujin-kai"" (Ink People Society) with Morita Shiryū and five others, which had a significant impact on the Japanese calligraphy scene. INOUE Yuichi was a pioneering abstract calligrapher in Japan and was widely regarded as a crucial figure in post-war avant-garde art groups in Japan, particularly emphasizing the emulation of ancient and traditional calligraphic scripts.

His works were extensively exhibited throughout his life and received international acclaim. He held solo exhibitions in Germany, Japan, Switzerland, China, Taiwan, and other locations. His works are collected by institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Museum Ludwig in Cologne, the August Macke House in Germany, the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, the Rietberg Museum in Switzerland, the Today Art Museum in Beijing, the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, and the Museum of Modern Art, Gunma in Japan.
