Also known as Yichang and Moxiang Yizhu, Wan Yan-Bei followed Yan Bo-Long, specializing in Peking freehand Flower and Bird artist. He was an active member of the Beijing New Art Studio in the 1950s and taught in the Beijing School of Arts and Crafts.
