LIN BAO LING 林葆靈
Taiwanese 1981
Born in Taipei in 1981, Lin Bao Ling moved to Singapore with his parents at the age of fifteen. He later earned a B.A. (Hons) in Fine Arts from LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore and returned to Taiwan to complete his M.F.A. at the Department of Fine Arts, National Taiwan Normal University. For years, Lin’s practice has centered on "nocturnal scenarios," specializing in depicting the fluid interplay of light and shadow within cities, amusement parks, and snowscapes under the cover of darkness. His work seeks to capture the ephemeral sense of impermanence found in the perpetual transition between light and dark. Lin masterfully synthesizes the expressive "splashed-ink" (po-mo) aesthetics of Eastern ink painting with Western oils and acrylics. By layering and blending pigments on multi-media vellum, he creates a dreamlike visual style that evokes the soft, out-of-focus blur of photography.

Lin’s artistic achievements have garnered significant international recognition. In 2010, he was honored with the Freeman Foundation Asian Artist Fellowship at the Vermont Studio Center (USA). He has also received numerous accolades, including the King Car Young Oil Painting Award, the Taoyuan Fine Arts Exhibition Award, and the Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition Award. Beyond his renowned landscapes, his The Nameless Little Guy series demonstrates a profound integration of figurative characters with inner emotional states. His works have been exhibited extensively across Asia, the United States, and Europe, with highlights including Art Basel Hong Kong (2026) and the Way of the Masters special exhibition at the National Art Museum of China (NAMoC) in Beijing (2015). Lin’s pieces are held in the permanent collections of prestigious institutions such as the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA), the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) Art Museum, and the Tree Art Museum in Beijing, as well as by numerous private and corporate collectors worldwide.
