Hsieh Mu-Chi, born in Taipei in 1981, an artist and a lecturer at Taipei National University of the Arts. His works have received the first prize in the Taipei Art Awards, Taoyuan International Art Award, S-An Aesthetics Award, and nominations for the 2022 CTBC Painting Prize and the 18th Taishin Arts Award (2020). For Hsieh, painting is like removing glasses, presenting a paradoxical sensation of "an object that is both blurry and clear." This contradiction continually plays out in the painting process, as selected images are re-drawn on the flat surface, breaking free from existing contexts and creating a unique temporal state that can be endlessly repeated, extended, and combined, achieving a certain visual balance.
The work "Afternoon with GEE," presents geometric shapes with vibrant colors, and compositional lines, creating a joyful visual experience within organized chaos. The textures evoke ambiguous and unclear traces of memory. This work was created as a special piece for the artist's participation in the charity exhibition ‘You are my sunshine’(2009) organized by the Youth CARE Foundation.
