Yutaka Hashimoto 橋本ユタカ
Japanese 1979
Yutaka Hashimoto was born in Osaka, Japan in 1979. He graduated from Kyoto Saga Art College and Osaka Sogo College of Design. In Hashimoto's works, figures repeatedly appear. Despite depicting only the outlines of the characters without any facial expressions, they evoke a nostalgic and familiar feeling that allows viewers to define their own interpretations. Hashimoto embodies a desire for viewers to liberate themselves from the constrictions of tangible forms and colors while appreciating his artistry. The layered application of white and black pigments seems to affirm the existence of the self while deconstructing it into a state of emptiness. Each stroke carries a distinctive emotion, vividly illustrating the dynamic rhythm of the human form. Just as Hashimoto once said, “In the moment of action, living beings come to life.” Whether in the postures of sumo wrestling, judo, or skateboarding, these art forms reflect the artist's contemplation on the concept of ‘equality.’ Hashimoto's artistic journey has led him to present individual exhibitions in the cities of London, Tokyo, and Taipei.
