T.T. YEN 嚴雋泰
Taiwanese 1936
Born in 1936 in Shanghai, Yen is the son of former Taiwan President, Yen Chia-kan. As a child, he moved to Taiwan with his father. A graduate of the Department of Electrical Engineering at National Taiwan University, Yen went on to obtain an M.S. from the University of Kansas and received an honorary doctorate from Pepperdine University in the United States. He currently serves as honorary chairman of BES Engineering Corporation. Born into a traditional and conservative family, Yen began to focus his efforts on painting when he turned 60 years old, creating his first landscape oil painting, “So Serene the Verdant Mountains and Sea,” in 1994. Influenced by his wife, Hsu Wan-Chen, Yen taught himself to paint, and has never received any formal education in fine art. In 1996, his first joint exhibition with his wife was held at the Taipei World Trade Center’s International Convention Hall. Yen’s work was also exhibited at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum in 2000 and 2009, as well as at a gallery of the National Museum of History in 2011. Together with his wife, Yen has held numerous touring exhibitions throughout Mainland China, and his artwork is held within the collections of Suzhou Museum and Ningbo Museum of Art.
