XU Zong-hao 徐宗浩

XU Zong-Hao, also known by his courtesy name Shixue Jushi, was a renowned Chinese painter and collector in the modern era. He co-founded the "Chinese Painting Study Society" with Jin Cheng, Chen Shizeng and others; and with calligraphers such as Chen Yungao he established the "Chinese Calligraphy Study Society." Xu Zonghao excelled in landscape painting and painting orchids and bamboo in traditional Chinese painting. He authored works such as "The Bamboo Handbook." He was also skilled in poetry and published collections like "Shixue's Poetry Notes." He generously donated over five hundred cultural artifacts, including Guan An's "Scenery of Bamboos and Rocks,""Zhao Mengfu's "Huaiyun's Record," and "Biography of Master Gaofeng," to the Palace Museum.
