Wang Geyi was a renowned artist of the Shanghai School, specializing in painting and calligraphy. He was a disciple of Wu Changshuo, from whom he received high praise. In 1926, his Chinese paintings Knife Fish and Melons and Gourds to Cool the Summer were exhibited in Chinese art exhibitions in London and Berlin. The former won an award, while the latter was acquired by the Museum of East Asian Art in Germany.
Wang maintained close relationships with other prominent artists such as Wang Yiting, Zhang Daqian, and Qian Shoutie, and they traveled to Japan together for cultural exchanges. In his later years, Wang donated hundreds of ancient paintings, as well as masterpieces and manuscripts by his teacher Wu Changshuo, to the public. The Geyi Art Museum was established in Nantong in his honor.
