Taku Obata was born in Saitama Prefecture, Japan in 1980. He received a master's degree from the Department of Sculpture, Tokyo University of the Arts in 2008. In the same year, he won the "Tokyo Wonder Wall" award and exhibited his works at The University Art Museum, Tokyo University of the Arts. Taku Obata founded a Japanese hip-hop performance group, Unityselections in 1999. "B-Boy" spirit is the main source of his creation. Owing to that, strong rhythm and musical lines has become his recognizable style. Taku Obata has held numerous solo exhibitions at Nakamura Keith Haring Museum, Yamanashi (2012), Jonathan Levine Gallery, New York (2014), Bomma Galerie, Paris (2020), Akio Nagasawa Gallery, Tokyo (2020), Parcel Gallery, Tokyo (2020), ect.; and participated in group exhibitions at The University Art Museum, Tokyo University of the Arts (2018) and Watari-Um, Tokyo (2018).
