Born in Taichung, Taiwan, in 1963, Suling Wang moved to London in the 1990s, where she earned her degrees from the Chelsea College of Art and Design and the Royal College of Art (RCA). Renowned for her large-scale abstract paintings, Wang explores the fluidity of identity, landscape, and cultural memory within a globalized context. Her signature style masterfully synthesizes the expressive energy of Eastern calligraphy with the profound dynamism of Western Abstract Expressionism.
Wang’s artistic achievements have received the highest levels of international recognition. In 2019, she was honored with the Hirshhorn Museum’s highest award in Washington, D.C. In 2023, she made history as the first Taiwanese artist to receive the International Medal of Arts from the U.S. Department of State at the White House. Her work is held in the permanent collections of premier global institutions, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles, the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, the Cincinnati Art Museum, UBS Art Collection, and the Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TFAM). Furthermore, she was commissioned by the U.S. Department of State to create the monumental work The Singing River II for the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Taipei office, further cementing her distinguished international standing.
