LIN WEI-HSIANG 林煒翔
Taiwanese 1983
Born in 1983 in Hsinchu, Taiwan, Lin Wei-Hsiang graduated from the Department of Art and Crafts Education at National Hsinchu Teachers College. His artistic practice centers on a profound observation and visceral connection to nature, particularly the mists, fog, and forest imagery of Taiwan's mountainous landscapes. Lin translates these elements into abstract vistas imbued with Zen-like tranquility and poetic resonance. Rather than striving for realistic depiction, he utilizes multi-layered glazing and blending techniques in oil to capture subtle shifts in light and the stillness of psychological space. Within the medium of Western oil painting, his work embodies the "qi" (vital energy) and nuanced tonality reminiscent of traditional Chinese ink painting, creating spiritual environments that invite contemplation. A recipient of the Union Culture & Art Foundation Emerging Artist Award and recognition at the National Art Exhibition, Lin’s works are highly regarded and held in public and private collections, including the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMOFA) and National Hsinchu University of Education.
