Wang Chuang-wei 王壯為
Taiwanese 1909-1998

Wang Chuang-wei, also known as Wanli, sobriquet Jian-weng and Wang-jian, was born in Hebei. He practised calligraphy and literature with his father and started seal carvings from a young age, gradually building his fame in the community. After relocating to Taiwan in 1949, he took up prominent roles at the national museums and in important government sectors. His accomplishment in art education was surmountable. He spoke in lectures on calligraphy, seal carvings, inscriptions and the history of calligraphy at the Department of Arts of the National Taiwan Normal University, the National Taiwan University of Arts and the Chinese Culture University. Renowned groups on seal carvings were set up along with fellow members, in order to record and develop traditional art, thus making him a respectable figure in the art community.
