Born in Wujiang, Jiangsu, he was well-known for seal and bamboo carving and excelled in both sculptures and paintings. In his works, he strived to represent gradients of ink and forms of brushstrokes. Previously he worked in the Shanghai Museum, focusing on archaelogy and preservation.
