Ji Wenyu was born in Shanghai, China. He graduated from Shanghai Art & Crafts School and Decoration Department from Shanghai Light-Industry College. He received the Freeman Foundation Scholarship from Vermont Studio Centre in the United States in 1998. Ji Wenyu’s works featured the use of bright colors such as those seen in advertisement as his visual composition, meanwhile using famous brands as icons that stand for Western Capitalism which contradicts with the Chinese Communism.
