Ai Haibara (born in 1981 in Okayama Prefecture, Japan) graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts with a major in Sculpture in 2004, and she earned her master's degree in 2006. Inspired by manga and anime, young Japanese artists like Haibara have pioneered a creative style known as "sculptural painting," which seamlessly integrates traditional sculpting techniques with painting, resulting in works that possess unique visual tension.
Haibara's distinctive artistic style merges traditional wood carving techniques with acrylic painting. She focuses on sculpting young women at various stages of life, presenting her creations as lifelike dolls. Her work often incorporates natural elements such as animals and plants, which serve as spiritual guides, coexisting harmoniously with the human figures. This relationship emphasizes a respect for the natural world and aims to evoke environmental awareness
across different generations.
