A-Lei 阿咧
Taiwanese 1976
A-Lei (Yeh Hsin-Hong) was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in 1976. He graduated from the National Taiwan University of Arts. The most unique aspect of A-Lei’s work is the overwhelming expression in its shape and emotion. This power can be traced back to two inspirations. The first is his passion for animation, robots and toys since childhood. Secondly, influenced by the neurotic, oppressive and peculiarly distorted painting perspectives in the works of Austrian expressionist painter Egon Schiele (1890-1918). A-Lei hopes that by creating strange, grotesque creatures with strong emotional appeal, it will challenge people to question the seemingly ugly and worthless existence and break the opposition. A-Lei has won the Gold Award at “Taiwan Art Toy Award”, Nominee of “Taiwan Ceramics Awards Competition” and “Taiwan Young Pottery Artist Award & Biennale”. His works have been selected in “Very Fun Park” exhibitions of the Fubon Art Foundation for several years.
