Mitsuhiro Ikeda was born in Japan in 1978. He earned a Bachelor of Philosophy degree from Hokkaido University and a Master's degree from Tokyo Musashino Art University. In 2014, he embarked on an 8-month-long deep journey to Eastern Europe. Initially, Ikeda had anticipated immersing himself in the local culture and natural landscapes. However, an encounter with refugee communities along the way made him realize that the world was undergoing profound changes.
Gradually, an idea took shape within him. He began collecting scattered pieces of architectural wood, placing them serenely in linen sacks, and then carefully positioning them on the walls of the streets. These scattered pieces of wood symbolized families torn apart during times of conflict. Through his depictions of seemingly ordinary and unremarkable objects, the artist offered a reflection on the pursuit of material civilization progress. This compelled viewers to pause and contemplate, to imagine the experiences and burdens these objects had once carried, and to reassign them newfound significance despite their apparent incompleteness. This artist has held solo exhibitions in both Japan and Taiwan.
