Sam Friedman was born in 1984 in Oneonta, New York. After the graduation from high school when he was 18, he went to The Pratt Art Institute for commercial art. Then he worked as a designer for Nike and New York Times, and started working at KAWS studio. Friedman deploys tidy, flat, smooth visual languages in his paintings, to present well balanced forms and colour schemes. His abstract expressionism approach discovers the application of lines, colours, and the fluidity of the paint, expressing his emotions and imaginations. Instead of creating a gradient effect by using colour masking, he prefers to use mixed target colours and draw directly on the canvas. Hence, the artwork is filled with tensions and uniqueness. Inspired by nature landscape and natural phenomena, Friedman delivers spirituality in the landscapes, discovers the possibilities between the abstract and the expression. His solo exhibitions are including, Love Songs (Library Street Collective, Detroit, 2017), Fantasy (WOAW Gallery, Hong Kong, 2020), and Light (Library Street Collective, Detroit, 2021)
