+ OVERVIEW
Born in Shandong, China in 1983, Tian Shuxing graduated from Shandong Art Academy in 2005 and currently resides in Beijing. Tian's works have been exhibited in major international institutions, including the Huizhou Art Museum in China (2023), Yue Art Museum in Beijing (2023), Fangcao Gallery in Beijing (2021), Long Museum in Shanghai (2017), Shanhai Art Museum in Beijing (2017), and Shangshang International Art Museum in Beijing (2015).
Tian's description of his bamboo series mentions that while bamboo is often associated with literati and gentlemen, in Chinese philosophy, the significance of bamboo extends beyond traditional connotations. According to him, bamboo symbolizes the ability to carry things within its heart and retain air within its segments. In this series, the artist thoroughly dissects the real world and conveys the endless changes in his perception of the world at different stages of life from a purely material perspective. In Tian's world, bamboo epitomizes his essence—it has integrity, principles, and endurance in solitude.
