SU Meng-hung 蘇孟鴻
Taiwanese 1976
Born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1976, Su Meng-hung studied in Doctoral Program in Art Creation and Theory, Tainan National University of the Arts (TNNUA) and received a MA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths, University of London. Su is one of the most important emerging “Asian Pop Art” artists and he gained Taipei Arts Awards in 2002. The inspiration for Su’s work usually comes from Chinese traditional literati paintings, which presents strong decorative art style. Furthermore, SU Meng-hung ingeniously combines oriental old painting codes with Western still life elements, which opens a new way of art transcending time and space. The varieties of Su’s works could be easily seen and the flower blossom theme is the most eye-catching, which was deliberately endowed with kitschy style by Su. The artist tries to make a bridge between elite culture and the popular culture with independent critical thinking. His work "Kai Dao Tu Mi – Birds by Giuseppe Castiglione" was collected by Taipei Fine Arts Museum in 2006. Selected exhibitions: “Kai Dao Tu Mi:Su Meng-hung Solo Exhibition”, Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei, Taiwan, 2003 “ART Stage Singapore”, Singapore, 2007 “Non-Everyday: Hidden Force Fields”, Hong Gah Museum, Kaohsiung, Taiwan, 2009
